Astrocent team members Prof. Masayuki Wada, Dr. Azam Zabihi, and Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad<\/strong>, alongside collaborators from various institutions, have recently published a groundbreaking article on an innovative medical technology poised to revolutionize PET scans. This new approach, called 3D\u03c0 (Three-Dimensional Positron Imaging), introduces a total-body PET scanner that offers incredibly detailed images with lower radiation exposure and faster scan times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The technology, inspired by the DarkSide collaboration<\/strong> and the emerging advancements in cryogenic photosensors, liquid argon (LAr) detector technology, and low-radioactivity argon procurement, integrates time-of-flight (TOF) technology, ultra-low dose imaging, and ultra-fast readout electronics. The innovative use of a homogenous, monolithic scintillator made from LAr doped with xenon (Xe) significantly improves the system\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
