On the 2-8th of March, the leaders of two AstroCeNT research groups \u2013 Prof. Tomasz Bulik and Dr Mariusz Suchenek went to Italy to install seismic sensors (developed by AstroCeNT) in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory (Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso).<\/p>

Seismic sensors are used to measure and record ground vibrations caused by seismic activity, such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other sources of ground motion. Also they are sensitive enough to
detect the Newtonian noise (the result of seismic movements). Here at LNGS our colleagues survey seismic noise at the location of the DarkSide-20k experiment, which is currently under construction. $\"\"$ <\/a> \u00a0 $\"\"$ <\/a><\/p>

Development of a cost-effective system of seismic sensors is one of the main goals of AstroCeNT and one of the work packages in the DarkWave project. In this field AstroCeNT closely collaborates with GSSI, and this collaboration is part of a big effort to model and mitigate Newtonian noise in gravitational wave detectors: the existing Virgo and the future Einstein Telescope, as well as explore application of such sensors for monitoring stability of large underground liquified noble gas detectors for dark matter searches and neutrino studies.<\/p>
